TV

 

In fact, I rarely watch the TV, but I watched a TV drama called “Prison Break” long time ago. This TV drama talks about how the main character Michael Socfield saved his brother Lincoln from the prison. In the prison, he met a doctor by the name of Sarah. They met each other every week and they fell in love. As the story progress, they got into some big trouble involving the government. It has totally four seasons. I have not watched it all because it is too long and getting boring at the later seasons. However, after watching this TV drama, I think I have learned some English.

I think this project is funny. We can go out to the downtown and talk to people. it was nice weather this day. At the presentation, I was taking responsible to talk about the “Taste of Chicago”. We did not go there, but we think this is one of the important parts in the pop culture. There are four components of pop culture object, people, event and place. We wanted to talk a little bit about event, so we decided to talk about “Taste of Chicago”.

Technology

This is hard for me to decide which one that I cannot live without it between cell phone and computer. Both of them are the same important for my life. If I don’t have cell phone, I cannot contact all of my friends. I will be losing the connection with them and feeling lonely. If I don’t have a computer, I will lose most of my entertainment such as checking Facebook, watching videos and playing computer games. More importantly, I cannot do my homework.

 

Movies

 

 In the movie, days in the dream are just a few seconds in the real life. In one scene, Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) stayed in the dream for 50 years with his wife. At last, they committed suicide to get out of their dream. However, his wife could not realize the reality and got confused. She thought they were still in the dream and tried to commit suicide again. In one night, she jumped out the window in front of Cobb. After years, Cobb became a thief. He stole information from the target's dreams. He used a device to get access to his target’s dreams. Even in the dream, he still could use this device to get into the second level of dream. In one mission, the target found out Cobb invaded his dream, so Cobb failed his mission. His boss tried to kill him because of his failure.  Mr. Saito, the target of his failed mission, saved him and gave him a new mission. After the mission, Mr. Saito promised to let him go back the U.S. and stay with his son and daughter.

Music

My favorite singer is Joy Chou. He is the most popular singer in Taiwan. From 2000, he has already had 12 years of career. He has sold more than 28 million albums and gotten more than a 200 awards within these 12 years. “It rains all night” is one of my favorite songs. It is a perfect example to his unique music style “Zhong Guo Feng”. In this song, he combined the traditional Chinese music with the guitar. In conclusion, I love his music because of his matured music writing skill.

I think the texting generation article is the most interesting for me, because I have been right in this generation. From number pad to now touch screen, I have gotten through all of this and I am still texting a lot right now. I think sometime texting is better than talking on the phone when you don’t have much to talk. The conversation is not instant and I will have some time to reply. This will avoid many misunderstanding between me and my friends.

Cultural Identity

The wonderful things about Hong Kong are its culture. Hong Kong people keep their traditional Chinese culture and mix with some western culture. Now, they become a brand new culture different from the mainland China. Living in this city, people can choose their way to life. You can eat Chinese food or others style of food. You can celebrate Chinese New Year and New Year. You can have a modern wedding or traditional Chinese wedding.

Pop Culture

Since I came to the U.S., there are many things I have been influenced by American popular culture including lifestyle, food and hobby. I started to reduce my night life and go to bed earlier. I started to watch the basketball game and listen to some American music. I think I am adapting to the U.S. and starting to love the American culture. However, there is still something that I have rejected. This is the fast food culture. I think I eat too much fries and hamburgers and stated to hate them.  

    

        After taking this class, I have learned so much. First, I have learned what pop culture is and what the roles we are playing at the culture are. We have done the song and movie. After that, we can develop our new interests, identify our personality, and learn more different popular culture around the world.
